FAQ
Q. Is my Mission Depot Login the same as my America's Army Game Login?A. Yes, and any Account related questions can be found at Q. Do I need to register to download maps?A. No. All mission depot files are available to both registered and unregistered users. Registration is only required to participate in the site with your own uploads, votes, and comments. Q. What files can be uploaded to Mission Depot?A. The Mission Depot accepts America's Army map files (*.aao), and any related screenshots of the map in action that the author has submitted. You can also create image galleries of America's Army screenshots. Q. Do I have to use America's Army assets?A. Yes, only those assets that are approved and part of the America's Army library of assets which are located in the America's Army Mission Editor itself will function within the map that you create. Q. I have uploaded my map to Mission Depot, why can't other users download it?A. All files submitted to the America's Army Mission Depot are subject to a short review process to ensure content submitted does not have any objectionable content, and that uploads also adhere to core values of the US Army and does not disparage the US Army or represent it poorly in any manner. Q. The "Approval Status" of my Mission is "Not Mission Capable", "Mission Capable" or "Fully Mission Capable", what do those mean?A. The core of Mission Depot is the map (mission) review process. Maps uploaded to Mission Depot will be reviewed by a panel of experts. The most creative and well constructed maps that best fit within the America's Army game may be chosen to become Official America's Army maps! There are three (3) levels of approval with experts focusing on different aspects of the maps prior to release. Missions initially submitted will be "Not Mission Capable" while they are awaiting review by the panel of experts. Once the Mission has been initially passed by the panel of experts, your Mission will become "Mission Capable", which means that it is ready for community feedback while being played on Authorized Servers. Those Missions that receive the most positive feedback, and are then approved by a further level of scrutiny from the panel of experts shall achieve the highest reward of being deemed "Fully Mission Capable" and available on Honor (Official and Leased Official) servers.
Q. Will my maps uploaded to Mission Depot be playable on Official or Leased-Official (Honor) servers?A. Any maps that are approved will be made available for download from the Mission Depot, and may then be played on both Official and Leased-Official servers, allowing for Honor to be earned. These maps will also be added into the DCDS system to allow your map to get the widest exposure possible. Q. How can I download Fully Mission Capable maps in-game using DCDS?Either:1) Locate a server running that map within the AA Browser. 2) Double-click on the server or highlight it and hit the "Join Server" button to connect. 3) Follow the instructions on the resulting popup window to download the map. 4) Once download completes, repeat steps 1 & 2 to play on a server with the new map. Or:1) Choose the "AA Browser" option on the Main Menu from the left side of the screen. 2) Click the "DCDS" tab. 3) Highlight the map you wish to download. 4) Click the "Download" button. 5) Once download completes, you can locate and join a server running the map in the AA Browser. Q. What if the comments from others help me understand how to improve my map, can I edit it?A. Yes. Simply go to view your mission and make whatever edits you wish to the map. You may then resubmit your map for approval. Q. What is the voting system, and how does it work?A. We wanted to reward not only those maps that are well crafted, but also those that are popular. So the more creative your description and the better your gallery, the more votes you are likely to get. We also weight responses from those that are more active in the community, so be sure to Create, Collaborate and Communicate. Q. What is "VOTE UP" and how does the voting system work?A. You should "VOTE UP" those missions you feel have the most merit and are worthy of your vote. If you don't like a mission, simply deny it your vote. We wanted to reward not only those missions that are well crafted, but also those that are popular. So the more creative your description and the better your gallery, the more votes you are likely to get. We also weight responses from those that are more active in the community, so be sure to Create, Collaborate and Communicate! Q. Why does my map have 2 votes more than the map listed above mine, when sorted by votes?A. Each vote is weighted slightly, so that users who are more active and respected in the community (those that upload files and post community supported comments), have more value in their voting over a user who is more of a lurker (never uploads files or posts comments). Q. Why is there a voting mechanism attached to each user posted comment?A. This allows you to show your approval or disapproval of what the user posted. Earning the approval of the community increases that users standing in the community and increases the weight of their map votes slightly; earning the disapproval of the community decreases that users standing in the community and reduces the weight of the map votes slightly. Q. Where can I get help using the America's Army Mission Editor?A. If your questions have not been answered by referring to the America's Army Mission Editor Manual, or the Dusk and
Border tutorials, you should check out the America's Army Mission Editor forum found at the Official America's Army website Q. How do I run a custom map on my server in Authorized mode?
The following information no longer applies, DO NOT attempt to modify your tours.ini file:A. Once a map has been approved for Mission Capable status, it becomes downloadable from the Mission Depot site and is eligible to be run in Authorized mode. The following modifications need to be made to the server configuration in order to run the custom map in Authorized mode: - Place the custom map .aao file in the Maps folder of your America's Army installation. - In tours.ini, a new custom map tour needs to be added, if it hasn't already. To do so, change: NumTours=14 to: NumTours=32 and add the following line under [Tours]: Tour(30)=Authorized Custom Maps The number inside the parentheses must be 30 or Authorized mode will not be granted. - Also in tours.ini, a new custom map mission setting must be created in the following way: [Authorized Custom Maps]
;Title for the mission, you can change this setting
;How the mission name will appear in MBS, you can change this setting
;Leave these settings as written here
;Filename of the map .aao file, you must change this setting
;Leave this setting as written here
To add more custom maps to this file, add one to the NumMissions setting and add another block of the six settings as described above (MissionTitle, MissionMBSTitle, MissionImage, MissionImageDisabled, MissionMapFilename, and MissionNMLFilename). The number in parentheses next to these settings must be the number for the mission above it, plus one. For example, the next mission after the one described above would look like: ;Title for the mission, you can change this setting
;How the mission name will appear in MBS, you can change this setting
;Leave these settings as written here
;Filename of the map .aao file, you must change this setting
;Leave this setting as written here
