Missions upgraded to "Mission Capable"
January 11, 2007

We are very pleased to approve the first group of Missions, and promote them to Mission Capable status. This means that you will now be able to download the Mission directly from Mission Depot, and try it out before you "Vote Up" and comment.

We have also updated our Mission status section, and adopted the more familiar "Not Mission Capable", "Mission Capable" and "Fully Mission Capable". Not Mission Capable means the Mission is being reviewed by our Panel of Experts. Mission Capable means the Mission has been reviewed by our Panel of Experts, and is ready for Community Feedback on Authorized Servers. Fully Mission Capable, means the Mission has been approved for play on an Honor (Official and Leased Official) Server.

Please refer to the FAQ section http://www.aamissiondepot.com/faq, on how to load the Mission on an Authorized Server, and other important and helpful information.

This is good, however I have one complaint.

If you wish to make AAME/AAMD a success, you guys need to watch what you even allow. No offense, but allowing a map like Iceworld shouldn't even hit Mission Capable, I just do not feel it's a worthy map. You guys upload everything you receive, but don't you think you should be a little bit precise and weed out the ones that don't belong in the first place like that, Paintball, or one the the {fX} maps?

I understand you need to give everyone their fair chance, but by not having a little bit of ruling, everyone with rushed chances and no real time spent on it are in... Even if it took them hours, it was their first time, they obviously need practice. Practice and time spent makes perfect, not trying to make as many as you can as fast as you can and submitting them all to Mission Depot and wasting time for others that really count and deserve the time.

Just because a map gets approved does not mean that you or anybody else must download it or play it. Let your opinion be knows by voting for the maps that deserve it and ignore those that do not. If a map is not popular with the community (many will not be) it will likely never be an honor bearing map. In the mean time by passing them through to level two, anyone can download and play the map and figure out for sure what is worth their time an vote accordingly.

I agree that many (most) of the maps that are level two are not worth the time to download. In time people will figure out that it's not worth it to submit junk because it will never make honor. Unfortunately the editor is a new toy and we as the community have to put up with all the lame attempts at mapping. I have no worries that in a month or so we will stop seeing all the garbage maps and start to see real quality.

I understand having to be fair, but also think to us vets... I've been mapping for years, and these other 'fun' maps that make sense and are never going to hit the Honor stage are wasting peoples times and possibly stealing votes from maps like mine that very well could use them.

Theres new maps that took time even with bugs and errors, but have terrain, lighting, meshes, etc.; then theres maps that need to be weeded out before even being listed that are just boxes or very, very simple with no real even sense to them, like Iceworld and that blue boxed {fX} quick draw map.

I honestly have been letting my opinion be known, and I haven't downloaded or wished to play any of these maps. It's just the fact that they even get into being LISTED when I think before they're even listed on the site, even as only Level 1/Not Mission Capable, they should be looked at to see if they're really worth the effort, time, and votes.

If they want to make maps that won't make it to honor, that is their choice. They can waste their time if they want.

However, I would approve of a 2-3 separate sections of uploads. I would put them like so,

Honor-Maps that want to be given honor status (This is where voting happens, not the other two)

WIP- Maps that are being made. This would help for player feedback and such as that.

Fun maps/not Serious-Maps that don't have a true purpose in AA. They can still be played, just not on authorized.

Please fix the uploading of missions. Ive tried to upload my map over 20 times with IE and Firefox with no avail. Is there a size limit ? It just keeps going back to "Upload New Mission" page ,no Mission Uploaded or anything.....

I don't think this site is ran by the DEVs. I Think its ran by another team in AA. I could be wrong though considering I am just guessing. But whom ever run it plz help us with the mission upload.

I successfully uploaded a test mission to my profile, it is a 340 k test file, My map is 19 meg the upload
script is timing out after a certain filesize, so i'm thinking you all should check with easydns and have your php.ini settings changed to support a larger file sizes or this won't work for mappers with average map sizes.. I have the same issues on my web host, but they set the php upload limit for security reasons and will not change it for me, I can only use ftp for site uploads larger than 10m.... Don't know if this could be the problem, but I've been through this and seen it before...

If you have had troubles uploading you map file, PLEASE TRY AGAIN!!.

It is my understanding the Pragmatic has fixed the problem and your larger files should be good to go now.

If not, post here and maybe they will try a new fix.

Um, in the FAQ it states "Q. What if the comments from others help me understand how to improve my map, can I edit it?

A. Yes. Simply go to view your mission and make whatever edits you wish to the map. You may then resubmit your map for approval."

I want to know where I would be able to resubmit my final map version without losing my votes. I am prepared to resubmit from scratch if needed, but I'd rather not.

Ok it seem like people are talking about two different things here. Some people are talking about uploading their custom made map or maps to mission depot website into their profile and it seems some others are talking about uploading their maps to there game server host like gameservers or SeeMePlayMe and so on. The problem I am having is that I can NOT upload my map to mission depot (This website) into my profile. At first it was that when I click the "upload mission" button a blank white page would appear and nothing else. Now they seem to fix that problem and it allows you to select where you map is located on your computer , Max players, Time of day and more. After about 10 to 15 mins for me it just goes back to the page where you select where the map is located on your computer or it times out and auto logs me off of this website. Could it be a firewall or router issue on my part or is it the website?

To play these maps you are going to have to join the servers by IP # example open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. At least until they fix this problem. Also even though these are "authorized" maps they set my server to unauthorized even though it is an authorized server. These maps do not show up in command post either, So I have to set the map in config at gameservers. I do not know if this is only a problem with GS I have made several changes to tours.ini trying to solve these problems, but they have not worked, Such as adding dependencies, tour icons (I used SF icon) tourtexttitle etc. These have not helped at all. I have searched my .ini files for other settings but no luck there either. I am sure these things will be worked out in time.

missions on server so far:
"prison stryke" - good but needs lots of work such as renaming the AI
"night fight" - nice map well done

My map was on the list, first the Gallery was acting up, and didn't want to show more than one. Then it dissipeared off the list. It shows under my username (if you want to click [RAT]Stackout) that its there, but it isn't in the list.

It would be really useful if we could upload mission briefings right to the site or store the details with the map profile:
ASSAULT
1. SITUATION:
2. MISSION:
3. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
A. ENEMY FORCES:
B. FRIENDLY FORCES:
C. TERRAIN:
D. ROE:
DEFENSE
1. SITUATION:

B. FRIENDLY FORCES:
C. TERRAIN:
D. ROE:

I'm curious as to why alot of the re-make maps are the ones becoming "Mission Capable"? Is it because they are DEV made maps already with some minor changes that doesn't interrupt the process?

Not ranting, just curious..

[CHG]LongStone.on,

All you have to do is open the editor, select the "tools" on the top bar and then select "Briefing Editor" and you can put in everything you need. You can also title your mission there so it shows correctly.
